A very good place to start. (Thank you, Rogers and Hammerstein, 1959)
Choosing what to learn is huge. I love to learn and would like to think that I am always trying new things: new recipes, new crafts, new authors. When having to choose, I felt like I was given the world and I don't know what to do with it.
I first began to think about all the things I would like to learn, but then quickly realized that I have tried most of them (some successful, some less so). When I wanted to learn to bake bread, I spent an evening with some lovely ladies and we explored making Challah and I was hooked. When I wanted to learn to do stained glass, I took a course through my municipality. I see a trend. I am a teacher so I associate learning with being taught by someone. Learning on my own and through social media is a new experience.
So where to start? I have many likes and many things I would like to try. It was then that I realized one thing on my bucket list. One thing I always wanted to "master" has been watercolours. I am fascinated by the blending of colours and the gradients that are possible. That's something new.
I have always loved watercolours and somehow link them to flute music...I see the two as a good pairing. I have to admit that I grew up in an artsy family and we were always doing crafts, taking art courses, and going to galleries. It was always the watercolours that touched my soul. I may have tried doing watercolours as a young child. as cake paints were used in school were sort of watercolours. Elementary school was a long time ago so let's pretend I have never actually tried it. So, my challenge to myself is to explore this art medium and, who knows, maybe I'll have a natural gift.
More to come!
