Establishing a Baseline

When first starting a project, or, in my case, a new skill, you need to know what you know and what you don't.  In education, we call it establishing a baseline.  Below is my baseline.

For a full production of my first attempt, please click here.
** Please note that the music in my production is;

Rampal, J.P., et al. 1995. Concerto for Flute and String Orchestra in G major (V/4): II. Adagio (song). Catalan Flute Music of the 18th Century. Sony Classical (Composer Joan Baptista Pla ca. 1720–1773)

Based on this, there is definitely a need for lessons and skills.

When establishing goals with and for our students, we create S.M.A.R.T. Goals.  S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.  So my goals are;

  • Specific -
    • Learn 3 watercolour techniques  appropriate for landscape.
    • Try one complete watercolour other than a landscape.
    • Successfully complete one landscape that incorporates more gradient colours, incorporates white space and has been shown to Sharon Yentin, an art major and a friend who will provide honest feedback.
  • Measurable
    • The three techniques will be documented through photos and/or videos.
    • The progress will be documented and shared within this blog.
  • Achievable
    • The goals are specific even if they are a bit not open-ended.  As I am unaware of which techniques are demonstrated when, I cannot be more specific.
  • Relevant
    • Relevancy within the scope of this project.
  • Time-Bound
    • I will spend at least two hours per week dabbling in watercolour painting.
    • April 6, 2022, the final project and blog post is to be shared.

Let the fun begin!

NLP Part 3

  https://youtu.be/pi61dqkevAc The video above highlights the general context of the Network Learning Project.  Within the video, the goals were identified and reviewed for completion or success.  The sources of learning were also described as well as some examples of my work and how they related to the goals.  Learning this way allowed for self-exploration and self-paced development.  As our goals were individual, we could proceed and progress however we wanted.  The any-time any-where approach to learning certainly has its advantages.    In my context, the gathering of new knowledge was done through online tools and resources, and the sharing was done through the blog, though so extensively and limited to one only a few people.  What was lacking for me was the third step…the community of learners’ piece.  In an online scenario, this is a challenge to create.  In an in-person experience, learning new knowledge, sharing it and havin...
